How do I verify Wishlist Hero is working?
This guide gives you four checks that confirm Wishlist Hero is installed and reporting correctly, from a plain storefront visit down to browser console commands. Run them after installing, after switching themes, and whenever a shopper reports a missing button.
Check 1: the app is on
- Open the Wishlist Hero app in your Shopify admin.
- On the Settings page, confirm Enable App is switched on.
- Confirm the setup progress bar at the top shows completed steps.
Check 2: the storefront reacts
In a private browser window, open your store and add a product to the wishlist. Three things should happen:
- The “Product added successfully to wishlist” notification appears
- The header wishlist icon count increases, if the header icon is enabled
- Reloading the page keeps the item in the wishlist
A private window matters: it proves the wishlist works for a first time visitor instead of your own saved list.
Check 3: the dashboard receives the event
In the Wishlist Hero app, open Activity. Your test visit appears as an “Added To Wishlist” row within moments. If the row appears, the whole chain from storefront to reports is working.
See Activity feed for what each column means.
Check 4: the browser console (optional)
Open your browser developer tools on the storefront console and confirm the settings object loaded:
window.WishListHero_setting
You should see an object with your store settings. If it is undefined , the App Configuration embed is off or the page cached an older version. Hard refresh and recheck.
You can also listen for the app’s lifecycle event:
document.addEventListener("wishlist-hero-wishlist-updated", (event) => {
console.log("wishlist changed", event.detail);
});
Adding an item should log the change. The JavaScript SDK object (window.WishListHero_SDK ) is available on Silver plans and above, so do not treat its absence on a Free plan as a fault.
