Which email service provider should Wishlist Hero use?
Wishlist Hero sends reminder and share emails through the provider you choose: its own built in service by default, or your Mailchimp, SendGrid, Klaviyo, or Omnisend account. This guide explains what each option does, because two of them behave differently from the rest, and shows how to connect yours.
The two provider behaviors
| Provider | What it does with your reminder and share events |
|---|---|
| Wishlist Hero (default) | Sends the actual emails you customize in the app |
| Mailchimp, SendGrid | Sends the actual emails you customize in the app, through your account |
| Klaviyo, Omnisend | Sends no email. It fires an event into your Klaviyo or Omnisend account, and their flow builders create and send the emails |
With Wishlist Hero, Mailchimp, or SendGrid you edit subjects and bodies in the app and the emails go out as designed. With Klaviyo or Omnisend, the app becomes an event source and your marketing platform owns design, flows, and analytics. See Price drop and low stock flows in Klaviyo.
Plan requirements
Choosing an external provider is available on Gold Plus plans and above. On lower plans the page shows an upgrade prompt; the built in Wishlist Hero sending always works. See Plan restricted features.
Connect a provider
- Go to Settings and open the email service provider page.
- Choose your provider in the dropdown.
- Enter its API key:For Mailchimp and SendGrid, also confirm the Verified Email Address the emails send fromFor Klaviyo and Omnisend, use a full access API key so events can be created
- Save, then click the test action on the page:With a sending provider, Send test email delivers a sample to your inboxWith Klaviyo or Omnisend, the test fires a connection event you can see arrive in the platform
If an API key stops working, the app detects it in a daily check and emails you before reminders silently fail.
Choosing for your store
- No ESP yet: stay on Wishlist Hero sending. It works on every plan and needs no setup.
- Klaviyo or Omnisend user: connect them so reminder intent lands in the platform where your flows and revenue attribution live.
- Mailchimp or SendGrid user: connect to keep sending through your account and its deliverability reputation.
Whichever provider you pick, the trigger conditions and guardrails are identical; see Price drop reminder and Low stock alert.
