How do I change the admin app interface language?

The Wishlist Hero admin interface can display in your language instead of English. The language picker lives at the top right of the main Settings page, so you can switch the whole admin interface - labels, buttons, descriptions, and dates - in a couple of clicks.

This setting changes the admin app only. It does not change the wishlist your shoppers see on the storefront (that is a separate setting), nor your customers’ emails, nor Shopify’s own admin language. See Languages and translations for the storefront.

Where to find it

  1. Open Wishlist Hero in your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to the Settings page.
  3. Look at the top right of the page, next to the Manage subscription action: a globe icon labeled with your current language.
  4. Click it to open the language menu.

Spanish Español

The menu button itself always shows the language currently in use, so you can tell at a glance which one is active.

What happens when you pick a language

Choosing a language applies it instantly:

  1. The app stores your choice in the current browser session.
  2. The page reloads, and every admin screen renders in the selected language - including dates and the Shopify Polaris interface components.

There is nothing to save and no server round trip for a store setting; the switch is per person, per browser. If other staff members use the app from their own browsers, each one picks their own language without affecting anyone else.

How long the choice lasts

The selected language is kept in your browser’s session storage. Two behaviors follow from that:

  • It survives navigation: moving between the app’s pages, and reloading them, keeps your language for the whole working session.
  • It resets when the session ends: after closing the app (or the browser session expiring), the admin returns to following the language of your Shopify admin, which the app reads automatically when Shopify loads it. If your Shopify admin runs in French, the app opens in French on your next visit.

If the app opens in a language you did not expect, just set it again from the globe menu.

Missing or English strings

The four languages cover the full admin interface, but if a newer string has not been translated yet, it falls back to English until the next app update. If you spot untranslated text, let support know which screen it is on.

Not to be confused with

  • Storefront languages: the language of the wishlist, buttons, and popups your shoppers see is configured under Settings > Customize Wishlist Appearance > Languages, and follows your shop locales. See Languages and translations.
  • Customer emails: reminder and share emails are translated per the storefront language settings, not this admin switch.
